Community

I am a part of multiple communities even just within my school. I am a part of Science Olympiad, the volleyball team, and the Monti-Hender captains. All of these communities teach you new lessons or topics, team building, and responsibility.
Each of the communities I’m in teaches me an important lesson. My Science Olympiad team teaches me teambuilding skills, as does my volleyball team. They both teach me and the other members of the community how to work together well with people that I may have never met before. They also teach you how to work to all achieve a common goal. Another lesson that my Science Olympiad team teaches me is to be prepared for anything. If you don’t know, there are several events in Science Olympiad, both academic and building. When you are preparing for an academic event, you need to make sure that you understand the topic, not that you only read your notes out of the allowed binder. You also need to be prepared for building events, in case you need to make emergency adjustments to your machine before you need to present it.
As a member of the Monti-Hender community, I learn many lessons on being responsible. The Monti-Hender captains are a group of students that help at pep rallies or organize fundraisers. When you are a captain, you have to be able to work with those around you and make decisions. You also need to be able to help out, whether it is by donating food or marking down the donations that others bring in. It teaches you to remember to come in early to school some days, or that you need to help out after school. It also teaches you many other lessons that will be beneficial to you later in life.

The Hunger Games

My all-time favorite movies are the movies of The Hunger Games series. There are four total movies in the franchise, including “The Hunger Games”, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, and “Mockingjay” parts one and two. I have never been able to pick a favorite of the four, because they are all equally action-packed and adventurous.

When I first watched “The Hunger Games”, I had never read the books. I liked that movie so much; it inspired me to read all of the books. Over the summer, I had some free time, and decided that it was finally time to read the three books. Once I finished, I watched all the movies. There were many differences between the two, as there are with any book that becomes a movie, but they were still fantastic.

Each of the movies follows the main character, Katniss, otherwise known as “the girl on fire” throughout three of the most important years of her life. If you do not know, this takes place in a fictional world, called Panem, divided into 14 sections. There are the 12 Districts, the Capitol, and the lost and forgotten District 13. Each year, one girl and one boy from each district are chosen to be taken into the Hunger Games arena, which is different every year. There can only be one victor, which means, every year, 23 people are killed in a battle for their lives. In the Capitol, the Hunger Games are no more than entertainment. The people living there do not realize that their president is using these Games to keep the Districts in line. The Districts do realize this, and are in constant fear of the Hunger Games and the president.

The Hunger Games series’ movies are my favorites for many reasons. The main reason is because of how well the movie makers captured the vision of the books and brought it to life with incredible sets and costumes. I also love how, despite some minor differences, the movies are almost exactly like the books. That, to me, is one of the most important qualities of movies that are based on books.

Always Give Thanks

There are always so many reasons to be thankful. They are most widely celebrated on the annual holiday, Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, sometimes the real meaning is lost behind all the food. It is not recognized enough how much we have to be thankful for. I am personally thankful for my health, my friends and family, and my education.
Every day, you have at least one reason to be thankful. No one realizes how fortunate they are until it is Thanksgiving and we all celebrate life’s gifts. Sometimes, the real meaning is even overlooked because of the wide variety of foods traditionally eaten on this day. Even though the food is delicious, I believe that people should recognize what they are thankful for every day.
I have so many reasons to be thankful. I am thankful for not only my health, but the health of my friends and family as well. It is so wonderful to always have the feeling that you have someone that cares about you in your life. I am also incredibly thankful for my education. People often dread going to school, but everyone that can get an education should be fortunate. There are so many places where having an education is uncommon, and many people live their life without being able to read or write.
